The cartoon OZZY that I watched with my kids was very instructive.

Here goes.

So Ozzy was a very loved dog. His owners however needed to make a trip overseas and couldn’t take Ozzy along because pets weren’t allowed.

So what were they to do with Ozzy? They were worried, Ozzy was worried. Then they found this exotic home for dogs. They went in and saw everything nice and rosy. As in, dogs having a massage and sitting in the sauna.

Definitely, it cost a premium for Ozzy to be here 3 weeks.

The home seemed to match the standard of living that Ozzy was used to, hence, his owners simply signed some papers, dropped Ozzy off and promised to be back in 3 weeks.

Well, they came back to meet news of Ozzy dead, without any explanations whatsoever.

They could not get his dead body or get an autopsy. Why because they had agreed to accept any report they got upon return, Without questions.

Yes. Remember I said they signed something
But I didn’t mention them reading that something. They were told to just sign and sign they did.

Yes. The sign they did. Despite their exposure, they just signed without reading because they were taken in by what they saw in the home.

My friend, nobody should get you to just sign anything without you reading. You never know the implication of what you are signing.

Whether a form in a bank, or an invoice in the electronics shop, or the hospital bill.

Noting should have your signature without you knowing what it is about.

I quite understand that sometimes you might not be able to vary or contest what you are signing.

But you will at least know what you are being bound by. This knowledge will make you better prepared for outcomes and may well guide you on what to do next time.

‘Just sign here’ is a phrase that should make you pause.
