The mistake of a Good Father

Uncategorized

Godson was a dutiful father. He loved his wife and children like no other. He believed his primary reason for working so hard was to provide for his young children’s later life.   So after he had built his first house from his Co operative savings and paid up, the next thing was to start buying properties for his young twins, Danielle and Daniel.   He made such a proud father. Even his wife was good at showing off the best of the pack that life had sent her way.   So he bought the first land in the name of Daniel when he was a boy. As he was rising at work, he was paying off the loan he used to finance it. After 7 years it was time to do the same for Danielle. Hers was even in a better location as he had added a side hustle to his income that was bringing in good money for him.   He even used to joke with his 8-year-olds that if they didn’t like his methods, they could go build their own houses, after all, they were landlords in their own right and he was not about to change his mind about that.    His wife used to ask that won’t he buy anything for her. But he kept telling her that whatever he bought for her children, was hers. That when he was gone, it would be hers before it became theirs. The simplicity of his heart.   But life happens. And it happened to Godson. He was on the Dana plane that crashed on the 3rd of June 2012.    A safe journey kiss that morning was the only goodbye his wife and kids got.   Did I mention that the house they lived in was built in the name of their first child who died within 3 years of birth? Did I also mention that she was a housewife?   The trauma of his passing was too much for Victoria, his wife to bear. She was beside herself in sorrow. She could not even get a body to give him a befitting burial. The property was the last thing on her mind.     But it was the first thing on her in-laws’ mind. A thorough search of their house while she was in the village produced the title documents of all the properties. At this time the twins were 15. Just getting ready to write SSCE. They were underage at the time. So they could not take possession of the properties.   They were soon taken away from their mother and she was sent out of her matrimonial home. She was given the grace to take along her personal belongings though.   But she didn’t want to lose her children. She was given the option of forgoing the properties so that she could have her children back.   Which true mother would give her children up for property?   So she took her children and withdrew to a life of penury. From a life of grace to a life of grass.   I am sure Godson would have been looking down from heaven and wondering why he exposed his family so much with such a small mistake.   He would have been asking himself what informed his decision to buy all his properties in the name of his young children.    His wife remembered him with bitter/sweet memories. How he loved her and the children. And how he exposed them to humiliation and ridicule at the same time.   He made a simple blunder that cost his loved ones a lot.    Imagine what would happen if you made such a simple, life-transforming blunder.    You don’t want to, do you??
